According to a report from ESPN’s Kimberly A. Martin, the Detroit Lions were the most aggressive team pursuing future Hall of Fame EDGE Myles Garrett before last season’s NFL Trade deadline.

When Aidan Hutchinson suffered a season-ending leg injury in the Lions’ Week 6 blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys, it became clear that the Lions would soon need to find reinforcements. As it turned out, Za’Darius Smith was the player they acquired through a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

If Martin’s report is to be believed, Smith was not the Lions’ first choice, as they had their sights set on Garrett.

At this point, it seems highly unlikely that the Detroit Lions will trade for Myles Garrett before the 2025 season. Lions GM Brad Holmes responded with a “probably not” when asked at the NFL Scouting Combine if the team would add a star pass rusher this offseason. Additionally, the Browns have made it clear they have no intention of trading Garrett.

However, despite this, Garrett has remained firm in his stance that he will not sign a new deal with the Browns and still desires to be traded.

It will be fascinating to see where Garrett ends up in 2025. Could it still be with the Detroit Lions? Or will the Philadelphia Eagles make a move to steal one of the best EDGE rushers in NFL history? Only time will tell.
