The Washington Commanders may be in a prime position to reunite another former Dallas Cowboy with their head coach, Dan Quinn. When the Commanders hired Quinn last offseason, they not only gained an elite motivator and proven winner but also poached several key contributors from the Cowboys, including defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. and wide receiver Noah Brown.
Now, with free agency on the horizon, the Commanders may have their sights set on another former Cowboy, cornerback Jourdan Lewis. The Cowboys’ recent extension of defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa means they’ll have limited funds to spend elsewhere, making it likely that Lewis will become a free agent.
The Commanders would be a solid fit for Lewis, who has spent his entire eight-year career with the Cowboys. Washington’s secondary is already bolstered by four-time Pro Bowler Marshon Lattimore and promising youngster Mike Sainristil, but Lewis would provide valuable depth, particularly with Benjamin St-Juste set to become a free agent.
Lewis has consistently demonstrated his ability to be productive as a team’s No. 2 or No. 3 cornerback, and his career-high 71 tackles last season are a testament to his skills. He would likely come at a relatively low price, considering his age and experience.
For all these reasons, Lewis is an attractive target for the Commanders. His previous connection to Quinn and the Cowboys’ financial constraints only enhance Washington’s chances of landing him. Lewis would bring much-needed depth and veteran presence to the Commanders’ defensive backfield, and his reunion with Quinn would be a welcome addition to the team.
