ALLEN PARK — Tim Boyle, the former Detroit Lions backup quarterback, has signed with the Tennessee Titans.
The 30-year-old spent time with the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants last season, appearing in three games. Since departing Detroit in 2021, Boyle has started twice and appeared in 10 games across Chicago, both New York teams, and the Dolphins.
Boyle began his career with the Green Bay Packers, then joined the Lions in 2021 and 2022. He started three games for the Lions in 2021, throwing three touchdowns and six interceptions in three losses.
The Lions cut Boyle after camp in 2022, and he spent a few months on the practice squad before being signed by the Bears.
Boyle enters another intriguing situation with the Titans, who have recent first-round pick Will Levis and hold the top pick in this year’s draft, with most experts predicting they’ll select Miami (Fl.) quarterback Cam Ward.
Back in Detroit, the Lions have Jared Goff, Hendon Hooker, Kyle Allen, and Jake Fromm as their quarterbacks.
Goff is the franchise leader. Hooker, a former third-round pick, enters Year 3. Allen adds experience and competition to camp and the offseason program, while Fromm earned a futures deal after spending a full season on the practice squad.
