Wrexham AFC have officially confirmed the signing of highly-rated Spanish defender Cristian Mosquera on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with La Liga side Valencia CF in June 2025. The 20-year-old centre-back has signed a four-year contract with the Welsh club, keeping him at the Racecourse Ground until the summer of 2029.

This acquisition is being hailed as a major coup for Wrexham, who continue to make bold moves in the transfer market under the ownership of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Mosquera, known for his composure, intelligence, and ball-playing ability, brings top-flight experience from Spain and has long been considered one of Valencia’s most promising youth products.

Born in Alicante to Colombian parents, Mosquera rose through Valencia’s academy and made his senior debut in 2021 at just 17 years old. Over the next few seasons, he earned a reputation as one of La Liga’s top young defenders, making over 40 appearances for the first team. However, contract negotiations stalled in early 2025, and he opted not to renew, opening the door for Wrexham to swoop in.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson expressed his delight at the signing, stating:

“Cristian is a player with incredible potential. He’s played at the highest level in Spain, and his calmness on the ball and defensive awareness will be huge assets for us as we aim for back-to-back promotions.”

Mosquera’s arrival reinforces Wrexham’s ambition as they prepare for their first season back in League One. With a solid defensive foundation and now international-calibre talent in their ranks, expectations are rising for another strong campaign.

The deal is subject to international clearance, but Mosquera is expected to join pre-season training immediately.
