LEGACY SOLIDIFIED: Bronze Statue of Black Sabbath Unveiled in Birmingham
A monumental tribute to the godfathers of heavy metal has officially taken its place in Birmingham’s history. On July 6th, a stunning bronze statue honoring Black Sabbath was unveiled in the heart of the band’s hometown, marking a powerful moment of pride for the city and fans worldwide.
Located near Broad Street’s “Walk of Stars,” the statue features all four original members—Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and the late Bill Ward—captured in their iconic 1970s stage presence. Crafted by renowned sculptor Marcus Cornish, the piece stands over 8 feet tall and exudes the raw energy, power, and rebellion that defined Black Sabbath’s legacy.
Hundreds gathered for the emotional unveiling, including local dignitaries, music fans, and the Osbourne and Iommi families. A tearful Ozzy addressed the crowd via video message, saying, “Birmingham made us. We were just four lads with a dream. This statue isn’t just for us—it’s for every fan who believed in heavy metal before the world caught on.”
Tony Iommi, present at the ceremony, added, “This is the greatest honor. We’ve played every stage in the world, but this—this is home.”
Live renditions of “Iron Man” and “Children of the Grave” played as fans cheered and threw devil horns in the air, many laying flowers and handwritten notes at the statue’s base.
