Last season, the Alabama Crimson Tide was home to one of the best freshman wide receivers in the country, speedy six-foot-one pass catcher Ryan Williams.
In the first year post-Nick Saban, Williams earned Freshman All-American and first-team All-SEC honors, snagging 48 passes for 865 yards and eight touchdowns en route to a 9-4 record.
However, another wide receiver, not Williams, is earning high praise this spring. On Wednesday, further reports surfaced of Miami Hurricanes transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton being “unstoppable” during spring workouts.
Per Touchdown Alabama, specifically former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback turned media member Greg McElroy, onlookers believe Horton “is a guy that can take the top off the defense and create big plays.” McElroy continued, saying the Miami transfer has been “difficult to defend” this spring.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer, the successor to former six-time national championship-winning head coach Nick Saban, and fellow wideout Germie Bernard also sang Horton’s praises early this offseason.
In 2024, Horton recorded 56 receptions for 616 yards and five touchdowns. During a four-game stretch midway through the season, Horton collected 23 catches for 242 yards and four touchdowns.
A four-star recruit in the 2022 class, Horton inked with Miami and departed after three seasons. Quarterback Ty Simpson sits atop the quarterback depth chart, per Ourlads, while Horton, superstar Ryan Williams, and Bernard are the likely top three in the receiver room. Sophomores Cole Adams, Jaylen Mbakwe, and Jalen Hale will also compete for playing time, although only Adams recorded a reception last year.
