The Dallas Cowboys chose not to draft a wide receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft, yet they are enhancing the position with new talent. Multiple reports indicate that the Cowboys are concluding a deal to obtain Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. The transaction is anticipated to be completed today.
Jon Machota of The Athletic states that the Cowboys are trading a third-round pick in 2026 and a fifth-round pick in 2027 for Pickens and a sixth-round pick in 2027.
Pickens, 24, is entering the last year of his rookie deal and as per Adam Schefter, he intends to seek an extension once the trade is finalized. He was drafted in the second round from Georgia in 2022 and has accumulated 2,841 yards over his three years with the Steelers.
In Pittsburgh last season, Pickens secured 59 of his 103 passes for 900 yards and three TDs. He participated in 14 games and had 12 starts for the Steelers, topping the team in receiving by 247 yards ahead of Pat Freiermuth.
His finest season occurred in 2023 when he hauled in 63 receptions on 106 attempts for 1,140 yards and five TDs. That season, he topped the NFL with an average of 18.1 yards per reception, featuring a longest reception of 86 yards.
Pickens becomes part of a receiving group headed by CeeDee Lamb. Jalen Tolbert and Jonathan Mingo were the other leading receivers listed on the depth chart, highlighting Dallas’s deficiency of elite talent at wide receiver.
This is the fourth trade of the offseason that the Cowboys have executed this year. They had earlier secured Joe Milton, Kaiir Elam, and Kenneth Murray, staying engaged in the trade market as they aim to recover from a poor 2024 season.
