We might possess one of those at this moment.
Owner Jerry Jones openly acknowledged on Tuesday that there are already “substantive” trade discussions in progress.
On Wednesday morning, multiple sources relay reports from Fisher that Dallas is proactively making and receiving trade-down phone calls in preparation for the NFL Draft, setting the stage early.
Merge that with the recent excitement about players like George Pickens and Courtland Sutton, and the Cowboys’ war room could become the epicenter of one of the NFL’s most significant draft night surprises.
Or …
Perhaps there is trickery in the atmosphere.
Fish believes the discussion about the offensive line is a component of that trickery—not that it isn’t possible, naturally.
We then contemplate the insights from our connected colleague NFL insider Dianna Russini, who recently noted two players she has heard the Cowboys are focusing on.
“Numerous sources within the league anticipate that the Cowboys will focus on an offensive skill position with the No. 12 selection,” Russini stated. “Texas WR Matthew Golden and Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan are players I’m hearing might catch Dallas’ attention.”
Certainly, as Russini is aware – and you are as well – these names aren’t new.
Dallas has an affection for both guys. And likely appreciates Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka as well.
However, “focusing in,” as described by one website?
Fish does not gamble.
“Currently, there are too many factors in play to believe that Dallas has narrowed it down to just two candidates at 12,” Fish states. “Excessive choices.” Too many factors. … including this: What if Jerry Jones’ Cowboys can move down from 12 knowing that a Tet and/or a Golden and/or an Egbuka will still be available?
“The gossip is circulating, and that’s part of the enjoyment.” However, that situation is the wisest wager.
