NFL insider Jordan Schultz first revealed that the two NFC North rivals will clash on Thanksgiving at 1 p.m. at Ford Field. Nevertheless, that report was updated to indicate the two teams facing off in Minnesota on Christmas Day. As of the publication date, the team’s Thanksgiving opponent has not been disclosed.
Detroit has previously competed on Christmas Day twice and holds a record of 0-2, suffering defeats in 1994 and 1999. The anticipated matchup with the Vikings is expected to be included in a Christmas tripleheader that will be streamed live on Netflix. Another game has been scheduled for that day, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs against the Denver Broncos.
The Lions have claimed victory in their last two matches at Minnesota, where the environment has been among the most boisterous to compete in.
The Lions triumphed over the Vikings last season, securing victory with a last-minute field goal at Minnesota in October and concluding the regular season with a commanding 31-9 win in a game that determined the NFC North champion. Minnesota ended one game behind the Lions, recording a 14-3 season.
