David Gilmour 'Luck and Strange' The ...

David Gilmour, the legendary Pink Floyd guitarist, has announced the release of his sixth solo album, Luck and Strange, set to drop on September 6, 2024. This marks his first studio album in nine years, following Live at Pompeii in 2017. Notably, Gilmour has reunited with producer Bob Ezrin, who co-produced his 1984 album About Face, to work on this new project .

Luck and Strange was recorded across several studios, including Medina Studio, Salvation Studios, British Grove Studios, Angel Studios, Astoria Studio, and Iguana Studios. The album features contributions from Gilmour’s family, with his wife Polly Samson writing most of the lyrics, and their children Romany, Gabriel, and Charlie adding vocals and instrumentation. The themes of aging and mortality are central to the album, influenced by the COVID-19 lockdown period .

The album’s first single, “The Piper’s Call,” was released on April 25, 2024, followed by “Between Two Points” on June 17, and “Dark and Velvet Nights” on August 9. Luck and Strange debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, marking Gilmour’s third solo number-one album in the UK .

In support of the album, Gilmour embarked on a tour starting September 27, 2024, with performances in Rome, London, Los Angeles, and New York City. His touring band includes bassist Guy Pratt, keyboardists Gentry and Greg Phillinganes, drummer Adam Betts, guitarist Ben Worsley, and backing vocalists Louise Marshall, Charley Webb, and Hattie Webb. Romany Gilmour also joined the tour, performing “Between Two Points” .

Looking ahead, Gilmour has expressed plans to record another album with the same musicians after completing the current tour, indicating a continued creative collaboration .
