Legendary singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks has just been honored with a major award recognizing her outstanding contributions to the music production industry. The news broke earlier today, stunning fans and fellow musicians alike who have long admired her trailblazing role not only as a performer but as a behind-the-scenes force in the studio.

The award, presented by the Recording Academy’s Producers & Engineers Wing, celebrates individuals who have had a significant impact on the art and science of music production. While Nicks is widely known for her poetic songwriting and iconic performances both as a solo artist and with Fleetwood Mac, today’s recognition shines a light on her often underappreciated influence on the production side of her music.

“This honor goes beyond the stage,” said Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, during the announcement. “Stevie Nicks has shaped the sound of modern rock with a producer’s mind. Her attention to sonic detail, vocal layering, and studio storytelling is part of why her music continues to resonate across generations.”

The 76-year-old rock icon, often hailed as the “Queen of Rock and Roll,” accepted the award via livestream from her home studio in Los Angeles. In her emotional speech, she paid tribute to the many engineers, producers, and musicians she’s collaborated with throughout her career.

“I’ve always said the studio is where the real magic happens,” Nicks said. “When you’re in that room, chasing the perfect sound, the perfect story—you’re not just a singer, you’re an alchemist. I share this with everyone who’s ever helped me turn a melody into something real.”

Nicks’ production involvement has spanned decades, from the layered harmonies of Rumours to the atmospheric textures of her solo albums like Bella Donna and The Other Side of the Mirror. She has often co-produced her albums and worked closely with engineers to create a distinct sound that merges rock, folk, and mystical elements.

Artists and producers around the world were quick to flood social media with congratulatory messages. Jack Antonoff, who collaborated with Nicks on her recent work, tweeted: “Nobody understands studio magic like Stevie. This award is long overdue.” Fellow artist Hozier posted a photo with Nicks and wrote: “Congratulations to one of the greats. A master of sound and spirit.
