– The Detroit Lions revealed today that they have extended S Kerby Joseph’s contract through the 2029 season. Extra contract terms were not revealed.
Joseph begins his fourth season with Detroit in 2025 after having a record-setting season last year. In 2024, Joseph topped the NFL with nine interceptions, becoming the first Lions safety since Jack Christiansen in 1957 to achieve a season with nine interceptions and a pick-six. He also became the first Lions safety to be chosen First-Team AP All-Pro since Yale Lary in 1962.
Joseph joined the NFL as a third-round (97th overall) draft pick from Illinois in 2022 and has since played in 49 career games (with 46 starts), recording 237 tackles (179 solo), 31 pass deflections, 17 interceptions, and two forced fumbles. His 17 interceptions are the highest among all NFL players in the past three seasons, and his 31 pass defenses are tied for the most among NFL safeties. He is the NFL’s first safety to record at least four interceptions in each of the first three seasons of a player’s career since Ed Reed from 2002 to 2004.
