Although it took the Detroit Lions 95 years to achieve a 15-win season, now that they have accomplished it, Lions president Rod Wood is informing one of the team’s fiercest rivals.
Following the Motor City’s highly successful hosting of the NFL Draft in 2024, it’s now the Green Bay Packers’ opportunity. When questioned if the small town in Wisconsin could equal or even exceed last April’s turnout in the D, Wood seized the chance to take a jab at his NFC North rival.
“Attempting to persuade the NFL to contemplate returning it [to Detroit] since I believe they will never surpass it,” Wood remarked at the yearly NFL Draft luncheon, according to the Detroit Free Press. “Green Bay won’t even come near.” “They’ll come in second, or as I mentioned to Brad [Galli], they might end up third just as they did last year.”
There’s definitely nothing inappropriate about some banter between divisional rivals before the start of the 2025 season. However, the league is assured that Green Bay will serve as an excellent host city for this year’s event.
“Lambeau, Green Bay, the Packers, and the organizing committee all possessed those elements,” NFL senior VP and global head of major events Jon Barker stated to The Athletic.
For us, the draft truly serves as an opportunity for fans to unite, and if we can pair that with bringing them to a location like Green Bay, the discussion was entirely positive instead of worrying. “I believe that Green Bay is prepared for this.”
