The Australian government has committed A$600 million over a decade to support PNG’s NRL aspirations. The partnership also includes a diplomatic clause allowing Australia to withdraw funding if PNG enters into sensitive security agreements with other nations, underlining the geopolitical dimension of the project.

To support local talent, the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) has introduced a policy that allows NRL clubs to sign up to two PNG pathway players outside of the salary cap.
