“Those who follow me know how much I love this band—going on 48 years now, since I first heard their debut album Free Fall in 1977. That moment changed everything. The mix of jazz fusion, Southern rock, classical precision, and sheer instrumental brilliance just blew me away.
Tonight marks 33 years since one of the most memorable concerts I ever attended. On June 16, 1992, the Dixie Dregs played two stunning back-to-back shows at the historic Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado. I was there for both. With camera in hand and heart wide open, I captured a night that felt like lightning in a bottle.
I shot a lot of film that night—some of my favorite live music photography ever. The atmosphere was electric, the musicianship top shelf. Steve Morse’s guitar work was blazing and lyrical, Rod Morgenstein was a percussive force, and the entire band locked in with a chemistry few can match. Every note felt alive.
There’s something magical about revisiting these moments through the lens of time and memory. This night was a perfect storm of passion, precision, and raw musical joy. I’m forever grateful to have witnessed it—and to still carry that fire from the first time I dropped the needle on Free Fall. Here’s to the Dixie Dregs and the timeless brilliance they bring to every stage they step on.” 🎶
